This story printed yesterday Without Bush media loses interest in war caskets got me thinking, Where has all the war protesters gone? And that led me to this story, US braced for surge of protest over war in Afghanistan.
A few days ago I caught a glimpse of national news (doesn't happen often, because I don't watch TV much anymore). The National Washington correspondent was talking about how more troops are being called up for as the violence in Afghanistan has increased dramatically in the past few months. However, Obama was being careful in his decision to send anymore troops and would be consulting with advisers over the next three weeks before making anymore decisions on the call for more troops. Interesting priorities as he is setting off to lobby for the Olympics and continues to travel promoting his health care bill.
This deserves more decision making and more expediency than that, three weeks, you could lose a war in a lot less time than that. For a president who said he would pull our troops out in a year and has only increased troops, since being called to office. I would have thought we would be seeing a lot more outcry than that. Especially in light of the numbers..."So far this month, 38 American troops have been killed in Afghanistan. For all of 2009, the number is 220 -- more than any other single year and more than died in 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004 combined."(quoted from Without Bush media loses interest in war caskets) If the President is all about getting us out of Iraq and sending an upsurge to of troops to Afghanistan then what is the hold up? Why not get more troops out?
I pray for our troops and hope that they are getting the support and equipment they need.
